Klang hospital orders precautionary closure of canteen following viral rat video

KLANG: The authorities have ordered the temporary closure of a canteen at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) here, following a viral video clip of a rat casually helping itself to a piece of cabbage from a buffet food counter.

The order was issued by the Klang District Health Office effective 2pm today.

HTAR director Dr Ding Lay Ming said she contacted the health office after the video clip was brought to their attention, and ordered the canteen operator to carry out immediate cleanup works immediately.

The move, however, was only taken as a proactive measure, as authorities have yet to be able to identify where and when exactly the 32-second video clip was recorded.

"We need the help of the health office in this matter because we have to be proactive (in ensuring cleanliness), as we do not know where and when the video was taken, and who had taken it.

"I have also ordered for the canteen operator to do a total cleaning operation today because we want to ensure that the canteen is pristine.

"It will be reopened later this evening after the cleanup works have been carried out," she said.

Earlier today, a video clip of a rat casually helping itself to a piece of cabbage from a buffet food counter, allegedly at a hospital canteen, went viral on social media.

Speculation was rife over which hospital it was. Some alleged that the video was recorded at a hospital in Klang, while others claimed that it was either in Seremban or Penang.
