KOTA BARU: The state National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) must give its full commitment to the 31 schools in Kelantan which were reported to be the “hotspot” for disciplinary issues like drug abuse.

Nada director-general Datuk Dr Abd Halim Mohd Hussin said this would prevent more students from involving in drug abuse and other disciplinary issues.

"In a recent meeting between Nada and the school's management, we have told them to focus on the 31 schools.

"We stressed to them to work with each other to curb this problem among the students.

“School counsellors must be at the schools in case there are students who need to take part in school development programmes," he told reporters after attending a community empowerment programme here today.

Also present were state Nada director Rohayu Ahmad and Kelantan Federal Development Department director Yahaya Mamat.

On the 31 schools, Halim said they were in 10 districts in Kelantan and students from schools that were near the border with Thailand, were classified as “high-risk” for drug abuse.

"Kelantan has 280 students who have been tested positive for drugs and most of them are from secondary schools in Pasir Mas.

"I believe they need to undergo the school development programmes the most," he said.
