SABAK BERNAM: Quick action by a group of Sungai Besar Maktab Rendah Sains Mara students prevented a fire from spreading in their dormitory earlier today.
The fire occurred at the male dormitory located on the first floor of Block C about 8.20pm.
A team of 14 firefighters from the Sabak Bernam Fire and Rescue Deparment rushed to the boarding school, located 22km away in Jalan Parit 16, Sungai Panjang, a journey which took them almost 17 minutes.
They were assisted by the Sungai Besar volunteer fire brigade.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Sani Harul said no one was injured in the incident.
"Seven students who are living in the dormitory were away at the surau when the fire started. It damaged two lockers.
"The students had used the dry powder extinguisher to control the fire. My men arrived to put it out completely. The operations ended about 50 minutes later," he said.
