PM visits national Sea Games contingent to personally congratulate them

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tonight paid a visit to the national Sea Games contingent and celebrated the nation achieving its 111 gold medal target.

Speaking to a hall of athletes at Renaissance Hotel, he called their feat a “historic achievement for Malaysia” and also congratulated Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and his ministry officials.

“The Sea Games has helped forge greater solidarity among our people. People regardless of race and religion have come together to support the national contingent. I am told that we may see more wins coming our way, since there are still two more days before the Sea Games comes to an end,” he said.

Najib also praised the athletes for upholding the country’s name.

“Everyone I’ve met since the start of the games have nothing less than positive remarks to say. These Sea Games have indeed fostered greater solidarity.

“Our achievements have been excellent. Congratulations to the national squad, OCM (Olympic Council of Malaysia), the (Youth and Sports) Ministry, chef de mission Datuk Marina Chin, sports associations, coaches and you athletes yourselves for the best performance ever displayed in these biennial games.

“Congratulations Malaysia! Well Done!,” he said.

Najib, wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Marina then joined the athletes in taking wefie pictures.
