All Geared-up for the 60th Merdeka Celebrations

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he was satisfied with the Merdeka Day rehearsal, here, today, which saw some 18,000 participants taking part at the Merdeka Square here today.

"I am satisfied with the overall rehearsal today. It is meaningful to all of us as it delivers the message that we had successfully achieved the 60th National Day.

"I hope the performances by all who are involved would not be forgotten and would be a memorable one," he said.

The Prime Minister, who was present at the rehearsal exercise said the nation is all geared-up to celebrate the 60th National Day celebration this Thursday through the collaboration of performances involving Malaysians of backgrounds.

Also present at the rehearsal was Multimedia and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak and Secretary-General Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad.

Najib, who also took part in the rehearsal routines, also shouted "Merdeka" for seven times.

He also called upon Malaysians to appreciate the sacrifice by the nation’s leaders and individuals in developing and transforming the country.

"We have gone through huge challenges throughout the 60 years. When we look at today's celebrations, we can see that what we have done is a great achievement.

"We should also foster such achievements in our heart and soul. For the next generation, you are the generation that will lead the nation towards the National Transformation 2050," he added.

The rehearsal today is third time held, began at 7am. It saw participation as well as performance by students from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, arts group from the National Arts and Heritage Department and Armed Forces.
