DPM visits 1st phase of Bukit Kayu Hitam's ICQS

BUKIT KAYU HITAM: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has arrived at the newly-completed Phase 1 of the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) here for a first-hand look.

Zahid will begin his visit by chairing a high-level Committee meeting on the ICQS with border security stakeholders at the Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem),

before taking a site tour of the Complex.

This is Zahid's third visit to the site since April after the government helped resolve a prolonged dispute between two companies of a consortium tasked with developing the project. It caused the project to be delayed by almost two years.

During a press conference at the site today, Zahid said the entire ICQS will be fully completed by Nov 1.

The Bukit Kayu Hitam border checkpoint’s operation hours will be extended from the current 18 hours to 20 hours this month.

It is slated to become a 24-hour operation by Jan 1, 2018.
