Taman Muda morning market traders call for road upgrade

KUALA LUMPUR: The Taman Muda Morning Market traders in Ampang want the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to upgrade Jalan Bunga Mawar to prevent traffic congestion in the area.

Most of the traders described the main road, connecting Bandar Baru Ampang and residential areas nearby, as congested especially in the morning and weekends due to its narrow lanes and the frequent occurrence of faulty traffic lights.

Taman Muda Hawkers and Small Traders Association president Chow Chee Keen said they had lodged complaints and forwarded suggestions to MPAJ to widen the roads many times before but no action has been taken so far.

“As a short-term measure, we have to engage the services of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) to control traffic especially during weekends and peak hours, namely from 6am to 8am.

“If Rela members are not there, the traffic congestion will drag up to several kilometres. The residents around this area often complained about being caught in the traffic jam for up to two hours,” he told a press conference after the visit by Pandan MCA Division today.

As such, Chow had called for the MPAJ to upgrade the stretch from single lane to double lanes.
