BESUT: More than one million fish and shrimp fries were released into seven rivers in Terengganu.
State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Plantations and Commodities Committee chairman Datuk Muhammad Pehimi Yusof said a total of 1,074,541 fries were cultivated since eight years ago, involving a cost of RM214,000.
“Numerous river fish seeds such as the ‘kelah’, ‘lampam’, ‘baung’ and lobsters were released to benefit inland fishermen and anglers,” he told the media after attending a fish fries release event at Ampangan Jajar, Hulu Besut today.
During the event, 61,000 river lampam fish fries and 5,000 baung fries were released into Sungai Besut, Ampangan Jajar and Gong Duek.
Muhammad Pehimi said previously, fish and shrimps fries were released in Sungai Besut (Ampangan Jajar), Sungai Pelong, Sungai Terengganu, Sungai Berang, Sungai Marang, as well as Sungai Loh and Sungai Air Putih in Kemaman.
