KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has been busy in the United States, having yesterday paid a visit to the Feynman School for the Gifted and engaging with PERMATApintar students currently in the country.
The Feynmen School located in North Bethesda, Maryland enrolls young gifted learners, aged 5 to 14 years old, from the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
It is an independent co-educational school where bright, curious, creative children, surrounded by peers can explore their gifts and fulfill their potential.
It is similar to the PERMATA programme in Malaysia, which Rosmah is patron of.
During the visit, Rosmah entered classrooms, interacted with students and listened to a presentation by Head of School Susan Gold, executive director Robert Gold and director of Curriculum Development Maya Manning.
The school blends acceleration, higher-order thinking, critical reasoning, and interdisciplinary connection to enhance creativity and elevate deep understanding of the real world.
Following the visit, Rosmah had an engagement session with 15 PERMATApintar students studying at the east coast and mid-west region of the United States.
The engagement session, conducted at the official residence of the Malaysian Ambassador at Forest Hill, Washington saw the students interact with Rosmah on issues of moving forward in their post-graduate studies, mapping of their post-graduate studies with Malaysian needs and their roles in helping Malaysia move towards the 4th Industrial Revolution and National Transformation 2050.
Rosmah at the session advised the students to not just stop at undergraduate studies, but rather pursue post-graduate studies and even go for postdoctoral programmes after that.
PERMATA, she said, would assist through the PERMATA Top STEM Talent Center and Yayasan Pintar to assist gifted and academically-talented students who need financial aid in making a transition from undergraduate degree to post-graduate degree.
The assistance is in the form of a “stop-gap” measure to increase the students’ chances in gaining admission into graduate schools of their choice within the fields of studies needed by Malaysia in 2050.
Rosmah is currently in the States accompanying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for an invited meeting with United States President Donald Trump.
