Foreign Ministry confirms 10 Malaysians involved in Airbnb home fire

PUTRAJAYA: The Foreign Ministry today confirmed that 10 Malaysians were involved in a fire which took place at a three-storey Airbnb home located in Christchurch, New Zealand last Sunday.

The statement said two of the victims were rushed to the Christchurch General Hospital for treatment and are reported to be stable.

It was reported yesterday that six Malaysian tourists were taken to the Christchurch Hospital after they tried unsuccessfully to fight a fire that gutted the luxury hilltop Airbnb house that they have been renting.

The overnight blaze, which was believed to have started at 8.30pm local time, completely destroyed the wooden house.

The Malaysian High Commission in Wellington is currently monitoring the condition of the victims and will render consular assistance accordingly, the ministry said.

"Malaysians in need of consular assistance in New Zealand may reach out to the High Commission of Malaysia in Wellington at +64-4-385 2439 /+64-4-801 5659 or email at mwwellington@kln.gov.my."
