DPM Zahid arrives to a rousing welcome from students of SMK Rosli Dhoby

SIBU: Some 1,000 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Rosli Dhoby went into a frenzy during a working visit by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the secondary school.

Students rushed towards Zahid and his entourage, who included Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, to shake hands and take selfies with the deputy prime minister.

Accompanying Zahid during his tour at the school, which was built in 1975, were State Education, Science and Technology Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong and Assistant State Education and Technology Research Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee.

Present were ministry's director-general Tan Sri Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof and State Education Department director Rakayah Maadon.

Zahid spent almost an hour to inspect to condition of academic buildings and hostel of the school.

The school's principal, Tan Tie Muan, said one of the academic building inspected by Zahid had been declared as unsafe by the Public Works Department on Jan 31 this year.

"The structure of the building, which also houses 10 classrooms, has become unstable and not safe to be occupied due to the soil condition.

"The deputy prime minister had also visited the hostel for 43 male boarders, which is in dilapidated condition," he said, adding that there are a total of 1,067 students ranging from Form One until Form Six at the school.

The school also houses 19 special education students aged between 13 and 17.

Zahid and his entourage later visited Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Sungai Salim before ending his working tour to the division.
