KKLW to raise funds for tahfiz school fire victims

KUALA LUMPUR: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry is mobilising its personnel and agencies to raise funds for the victims of the deadly fire that engulfed a religious school here today.

Its minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also said GiatMARA will conduct electrical wiring inspections at all tahfiz schools and orphanages nationwide, starting tomorrow.

“The inspections will be carried by GiatMARA’s preventive maintenance team.

“This team was set up last year to provide free electrical wiring inspections and repairing,” he told reporters after inspecting the three-storey Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz Centre here today.

He said initial information indicated that the tahfiz school’s electrical wiring was in good condition.

“Perhaps, the school’s safety features did not meet standards.”

Ismail also expressed his condolences to the victims and their families.

“I am saddened by this tragic loss... I was with them during a breaking-of-fast event recently.”
