Prayers and tears as bodies of fire victims prepared for burial

KUALA LUMPUR: As funeral prayers were performed for the fire victims of tahfiz school today, their families could not contain their sadness and tears flowed freely.

The mournful scene was observed as family members joined in prayers for the dead at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital surau quarters.

The father of one of the victims was seen sobbing quietly as his son's body was carried into the hearse after the prayers.

As of 6pm, four bodies have been taken from the surau for burial.

Religious officials and the victims’ families had also performed prayers for 12 other victims from the fire incident here yesterday.

Initially, there were plans to conduct the prayers simultaneously for all the dead.

However, some of the families had requested to hold a private prayer as a way to speed up the process to bury the victims.

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department led the rituals to clean the bodies at the hospital before the burial.

All 23 bodies of those who died in in the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz school blaze were taken by relatives from KLH mortuary as of 5.45pm today.
