2,000 join in run for Malaysia Day

JOHOR BARU: State police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd flagged off more than 2,000 people who took part in the Harmony Run and Carnival organised by property developer Tanah Sutera Development Sdn Bhd today.

Held in conjunction with Malaysia Day, the event at the compound of Sutera Mall is aimed at raising funds for charities and to commemorate peace, racial harmony and happiness among Malaysians on this special day.

Tanah Sutera Development Sdn Bhd general manager Steven Shum said the day-long programme consisted of the early morning run in which 2,100 participants and 250 policemen cyclist team took part; and a carnival to be held tonight.

"The main objective of the run is to raise funds for five charity organisations which are beneficiaries of proceeds from the run as well as to inspire and nurture our communities to give back to society to uphold a good cause," said Shum.

The run has so far raised RM600,000 which will be distributed to five charity organisations: Fo Guang Shan Malaysia, Kiwanis CareHeart Association, Pusat Kebajikan Kalvari, Ark Care Centre and I-Care Cancer Support Association.

Shum said the event culminated tonight with the a carnival and the property developer's annual Muhibbah Night at Sutera Mall, Sutera Utama Business Centre.

Joining Khalil in the event were Pulai member of parliament office secretary Datuk Abd Rashid Kasman, deputy state police chief Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din, State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Azman Ayob and Johor Baru Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad.
