Tahfiz fire survivor undergoes surgery to remove burnt skin

KUALA LUMPUR: Fifteen-year-old Zunnun Misiri, one of the survivors of the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz fire tragedy who is still warded at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), has successfully undergone surgery to remove burnt skin.

"The operation process took two hours and Alhamdulillah, my son is in stable condition. He can now eat, drink and talk.

"But, he is still on a breathing ventilation machine,” said 46-year-old Nasron Mat Yusof, who added that he thanks the public for all their prayers.

It was reported that three other tahfiz students who were receiving treatment at HKL were discharged on Saturday night after their conditions stabilised.

The three – Muhammad Syamin Che Azmi, 18, Wan Muhammad Danish Hisham Wan Nor Hisham, 14 and Sufian Emmad, 20 (a member of the public) – will, however, continue to receive follow-up treatment for trauma over the incident.

Zunnun and another survivor, Adib Bakri Bahkir, 15, suffered between three to 19 per cent burns.

Adib was discharged yesterday and is now able to walk on his own.

Two survivors are still in the intensive care unit (ICU) – Indrakurniawan Mohd Amirul, 11 and Muhd Shahir Sharifuddin, 11.

The tahfiz fire tragedy occurred in the wee hours of Thursday and claimed the lives of 21 students and two wardens, and injured seven, including a member of the public who rushed to their aid.
