Village heads, imams, told to educate Muslim community; be aware of fake umrah packages

BALING: Village heads and mosque imams should play their role in educating the Muslim community from falling prey to fake umrah packages.

Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said they should help to channel the right information about umrah packages and help their congregation identify the right package to choose from.

He said there are many umrah packages offered at unrealistic price.

According to Azeez some agencies offered a package from as low as RM2,900 when the minimum cost to perform an umrah was RM4,900.

“When you are offered such a cheap package, please check first with reliable agencies handling umrah packages, to avoid from falling victim to a scam,” he said after opening the state-level Umrah and Tour Package Awareness Campaign and Consumer Right 2017 here.

Azeez said Tabung Haji is always monitoring agencies responsible in handling umrah packages. He added that the campaign will also be conducted in other areas including villages to help raise awareness among the people.
