Magnitude 5.4 quake strikes North Maluku, Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck north of Halmahera, North Maluku province, Indonesia at 7.15am local time today.

In a statement, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said the epicentre of the quake was 1,133 kilometres southeast of Semporna, Sabah.

The quake does not pose any tsunami threat, it added. -- BERNAMA.
