Nothing will be hidden, says Hisham on navy men's death

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Ministry has promised that nothing will be hidden in the investigations into the death of two Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel at Sungai Wangi detention unit in Sitiawan on Friday.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who took to Twitter today said he has instructed RMN to provide full cooperation to the police in the probe.

"I have instructed the RMN to provide full cooperation to the police in their investigations. Nothing will be hidden. That is my promise." he said.

In another tweet, he continued: "(And) I am consistent that no one will get away from legal action, if they are found guilty. As for now, let the police continue with the investigations.”

Hishammuddin also said that he was saddened by the death of the two navy men and extended his personal condolences to the families of the deceased.

Earlier, RMN chief Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin said RMN will not compromise on any breach of its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at its detention centre.

He said based on preliminary checks, it was confirmed that two sailors - Nik Muhammad Baihaqy Nik Mat, 28; and Mohammad Lailatuliman Mohd Shukri, 26 - were in good health before their death.

He said a five-man inquiry board led by an officer with the rank of captain, including an expert in occupational safety and health is currently investigating the SOP compliance by the personnel involved in the incident and if there was any violation.
