37th edition of the Malaysian Press Institute awards open for entries

KUALA LUMPUR: The 37th edition of the Malaysian Press Institute awards will retain all 20 award categories.

Its Operations and Corporate Senior Manager Norlida Jamain said the awards have been open for entries since Monday and the MPI secretariat is ready to receive journalistic works by local media practitioners that have been produced, aired or published throughout this year.

She said all entries will be charged depending on whether the media establishment is registered as an MPI member or otherwise.

Those registered will have to pay a fee of RM100, while non-members have to pay a fee of RM200 to comply with the entrance process set by the institute.

“We still welcome candidates to be recommended from media establishments, higher education institutions and NGOs for our National Journalism Laureate Award, Special Jury Award and Media Award, together with the candidates complete profile and justification for his or her recommendation.

“For candidates who have passed on, the entries are eligible for a year from the date he or she died,” she said in a statement to the press, today.

The closing date is Jan 16, 2018. In the statement MPI also stressed that late entries would not be entertained.

There were 291 entries for the awards last year. History was also made when the winner for the Best Investigative Report Award was also the Kajai Award winner.

The awards were presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, last year.

The presentation ceremony for the 2017 awards will be held in early May 2018.
