USM students begin voting for Student Rep Council members

GEORGE TOWN: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) students have begun casting their votes for members of the Student Representative Council for the 2017/18 session.

Voting began at 8.30am using an efficient and convenient electronic system called ‘epilih' for the second year running.

Some 12,148 registered USM students from three campuses in Gelugor, Nibong Tebal and Kubang Kerian are voting at six designated areas at all three campuses.

Students who have classes in the afternoon voted earlier in the morning, and the process has reportedly been smooth.

Out of 29 available seats, 17 candidates have already won with no contest; while 20 candidates will battle for the remaining 12 seats.

Voting closes at 5pm, with the announcement of results expected to be made at 6pm.
