Man drowns at Tanjung Harapan beach during morning swim

PORT KLANG: A man believed to be under the influence of alcohol was found drowned at Tanjung Harapan beach.

It is believed that he had gone for a morning swim.

The incident happened at about 6.50am but the 52-year-old victim's body was only found about three hours later.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations management officer Alimaddia Bukri said they received a call about the incident at 7.31am, and dispatched 9 firemen and 22 divers to the scene.

"Initial information received stated that the victim went to the beach with his two sons and a nephew at 6am.

"His son had tried to pull him to safety, but his attempt to rescue his father was unsuccessful. He soon lost sight of his father.

"Authorities involved in the search and rescue operation managed to locate his body floating about 300m from the site of the incident during high tide at about 10am today," he said.

Alimaddia said the victim's body was surrendered to police and sent to hospital for post-mortem.
