Missing mental patient found drowned in Sungai Triang

BERA: The mystery of the disappearance of a mental patient since last Friday has been solved with the discovery of his body at Sungai Triang near Kampung Bongkok here yesterday.

Phua Oi Soon, 52, was reported missing by his family since he walked out from his house at Taman Triang Maju here, at 6pm four days ago.

An Orang Asli had found the victim's body stuck to a tree stump at the river at 2pm yesterday afternoon.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mansor Samsudin said that on receiving a call about the grisly find, they sought the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department and the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters's forensic unit to head to the scene.

"The body was successfully retrived by Fire and Rescue personnel before being sent to the forensic unit of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HOSHAS) (in Temerloh).

"Post-mortem results showed that the victim had died of drowning and that there were no criminal elements involved.

"We (the police) have spoken with the victim's family and found that he suffered from mental health issues," he said today.

Mansor said investigatios are still ongoing to ascertain whether the deceased fell into the river, among others.

He added that the matter has been classified as sudden death and the victim's body had been handed over to his family for burial.
