Another 2,534 flood victims receive RM500 assistance

KOTA BARU: About 500 families in Rantau Panjang affected by floods claimed that they did not receive the RM500 assistance allocated by the Federal government.

The families revealed their problem in WhatSapp messages to Rantau Panjang Umno division head Datuk Abdullah Mat Yassin recently.

Abdullah said he was shocked to see the message and immediately sent his officers to investigate the claim.

"Initial investigation showed that their names might have been accidentally dropped from the list of those eligible for the donation during the first and second phases of the distribution which were held last month and today.

"These 500 victims were those hit in the 2016 flood," he told reporters at Media Prima office today.

Abdullah promised that Umno would help them to get their money.

"Tthe Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak fulfills every promise made to the people.

"For instead, during the first phase of the RM500 distribution, a total of 1,784 victims got the money and another 2,534 received it today.

"The Federal government has spent about RM1.3 million for the purpose so far," he said.

Abdullah said he would discuss the matter with National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) soon.

Earlier in Rantau Panjang, the handing over of the financial aid to 2,534 flood victims was held at Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara in Lubok Jong.
