Woman held for buying turtle eggs

SANDAKAN: A buyer of turtle eggs was arrested in a joint operation here this morning.

The 50-year-old woman had with her two bags containing 27 turtle eggs.

District Sabah Wildlife Department officer Hussein Muin said the joint operation comprised personnel from his department, marine police and Municipal Council enforcement unit.

The operation was meant to curb rampant selling and buying of the eggs of protected species.

"We also seized 168 turtle eggs estimated worth RM252 that were kept in two bags abandoned in front of a shop at Jalan Pryer.

"The seized eggs have been taken away for further action under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997," he added.
