Najib thanks outgoing Chinese ambassador for service

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Friday thanked China’s outgoing ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Huang Huikang for his service here.

Najib, in his Twitter postings, said the ambassador has been instrumental in helping to elevate the Malaysia China relations to a higher level.

“Chinese Ambassador HE Dr. Huang Huikang's term ends this month. Thanked him for being a good friend to us, (especially) the Chinese (Malaysian) community,” he said in a post in which a picture of the two, smiling and shaking hands, was also attached.

“He has been instrumental in helping to elevate Malaysia-China relations to a higher level. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” he added.

Huang has held the position since 2014.

Earlier Bernama reported that Dr Huang had paid the prime minister a farewell call.

The meeting, which lasted about 15 minutes, saw Najib presenting Dr Huang with the book, Najib Razak 40 Years, 40 Pictures as a gift.

The South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday that Huang, a former law professor, will leave his current appointment on October 18 to take up a position with the International Law Commission, the United Nation’s top jurisprudence body.

He will be replaced by Bai Tian, one of four deputy director generals in China’s foreign ministry’s Asian affairs department.
