SHAH ALAM: An in-depth investigation will be carried out into Malaysia Ahli Sunnah Waljamaah Organisation president (Aswaja) Zamihan Mat Zin, who had allegedly criticised the royal institution during a religious talk at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah mosque in Bukit Jelutong on Oct 7.
Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Datuk Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa said Zamihan’s views during a talk at the royal mosque did not reflect the stance of Mais or the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais).
“Following this, Mais has directed Jais to conduct an in-depth probe into this matter in accordance with the Credentials Regulation (Selangor state) 2008.
“We would like to stress that religious speakers in Selangor must adhere to provisions stipulated in the regulation.
“This includes not giving religious talks that would bring about hatred, insult or could show insolence towards the sultan, Selangor government, Federal Government or the state religious authorities.
“This also includes talks that could create prejudice, hostility between races and people in Malaysia,” said Adzib on Friday.
Mais, he added, had instructed mosques’ and suraus’ managements in the state to monitor Islamic teaching activities in the house of worship to ensure that it was in line with the Mosque and Surau Regulations (Selangor state) 2017.
“We would like to remind all management parties that they are responsible in ensuring that all invited speakers possess teaching credentials and abide by the regulations,” added Adzib.
Zamihan was arrested at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Wednesday at 3.50pm over his alleged remarks made against a decree by the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar on the controversial Muslim-only laundrette.
In a video uploaded on Youtube, Zamihan, who did not named anyone, had allegedly said it was not right of the sultan, as the head of Islam in the state to issue such a decree.
When the video went viral, Zamihan subsequently denied criticising the Johor ruler, but had apologised to him.
The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun had reportedly said an investigation paper had been opened under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948.
Police had yesterday obtained a two-day remand order against Zamihan to facilitate investigation.
