Draft of political funding act to be completed this week: Integriti

GEORGE TOWN: The initial draft of the Political Donation and Expenditure Act (PDEA) is expected to be completed by the end of this week.

Malaysian Institute of Integrity (Integriti) president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Anis Yusal Yusoff said the draft will then be presented to the Attorney-General for feedback.

“The views of all relevant stakeholders (were) sought and taken into consideration.

“We have also met with all political parties, which have in principle, in the spirit of transparency, agreed to the Act,” Anis Yusal told the news media after the Integriti 2017 roadshow at Universiti Sains Malaysia on Monday morning.

Integriti, which was appointed by Cabinet as secretariat for the drafting of the Act, was given the green light to proceed over a month ago.

Earlier last month, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan said that the law to regulate political funding is unlikely to be tabled in Parliament any time soon.

He said that the proposed piece of legislation is still being hammered out by a technical committee.
