Man dies, three injured in fishing incident at Pulau Tiga

BEAUFORT: One man died while three others were injured when they were struck by a metal component of a fishing net at Pulau Tiga off Kuala Penyu today.

District police chief deputy superintendent Azmir Abd Razak said the incident occurred at sea on a fishing boat about 6am. The boat captain had informed his employer of the accident.

The employer in turn alerted the authorities.

Azmir said the deceased was identified as La Buanda, 25, from Indonesia.

"The other two who were seriously injured were admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

"Another person suffered minor injuries," he said in a statement.

He added that the victims' boat arrived at the Kota Kinabalu fish market around 9.45am.

Paramedics arrived at the market and upon checking, pronounced La Buanda dead.

The deceased was brought to the hospital for a post-mortem examination at 4.05pm.
