Villagers rescue 13 after boat capsized off Inderasabah waters in Tawau

TAWAU: Thirteen people were rescued by villagers after their boat capsized off Inderasabah waters Wednesday morning.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Fadil Marsus said the victims, who had on life jackets, were picked up by other boats.

“The authority received distress call at 7am about the incident and despatched personnel to the scene.

“However, they could not access the location as the sea was rough and the waves reach up to between three and four meters,” he said in a statement.

However, villagers nearby managed to come to the rescue of the victims. They also managed to pull to boat to shore.

Meanwhile, another two victims managed to swim to the shore when their fishing boat also capsized in the same area.
