PM hints more competitive graduates to be produced under 2018 Budget allocation

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is expected to allocate a significant sum under the 2018 Budget in efforts to continuously produce competitive graduates.

In Twitter post tonight, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said such a commitment was made possible under 2017 Budget and told the public to stay tuned for his 2018 Budget speech on Oct 27.

“The government remains committed to producing competitive graduates, with RM7.4 billion channeled to 20 public universities under 2017 Budget. Stay tuned for my #Budget2018 speech on Oct 27.”

Najib had earlier in September called out to the public to submit their suggestions on bajet2018.najibrazak.com.

The education category recorded 2,898 suggestions, out of a total 13,203 submitted by the public within a two-week period.

In earlier reports, Najib said financial aid for Orang Asli students enrolling in public universities would see an increase.

He said that an announcement on the matter would be made in the 2018 Budget presentation at the Dewan Rakyat.

“The aid would ease the burden of the Orang Asli students to manage their registration thus encouraging more people to succeed in academia.

“Education is one of the important aspects to change the future of the Orang Asli. It is understood that 767 Orang Asli have been studying at public universities, with 72 foreign students studying their studies from 2010 to 2016.”
