Pewaris Muda Negara can become a voice for the government, says Information Dept

JITRA: The participants of the Pewaris Muda Negara programme can help disseminate accurate information about the government to the people, the Information Department said today.

Its director-general Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman also said the participants, who are mostly university students, could dispel negative perceptions about the government by interacting with the people.

“The programme is a good platform to talk about the government’s various achievements and programmes through public engagement.

“At the same time, they can assist the department in fending off the accusations hurled against the government,” he said at the national-level Pewaris Muda Negara 2017 programme held at Kampung Chegar in Mukim Jeram here today.

He said the programme, which was launched in 2003, was aimed at producing the country’s future leaders.

The programmed was officiated by Kubang Pasu member of parliament Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharom, who is also Deputy Defence Minister.

Ibrahim said the Pewaris Muda Negara programme has so far produced almost 35,000 alumni who have graduated from their respective universities.

On the three-day programme, which begins today, Ibrahim said a total of 101 participants would spend three days with 51 foster families at Kampung Chegar.

He said the participants selected from higher learning institutions would take part in various activities with their “foster” families and villagers.
