GEORGE TOWN: A DAP lawmaker regrets his call for attention to the approval of hillslope development projects were left unheeded.
Tanjung Bunga assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu said his advice was ignored and lamented lives are lost following the landslide at Lengkok Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah here this morning.
Teh said he had warned of the consequences of possible landslide for approving numerous highrise buildings from Tanjung Bunga to Batu Ferringhi over the years.

“This is the kind of tragedy which I have warned of repeatedly. It is sad that innocent lives are lost to development. No one, but the state government, should bear the repercussion,” he told the New Straits Times when contacted.
As such, Teh said the Penang government should immediately halt all hillslope development projects statewide.
“Freeze all hillslope development projects and carry out a review. How many more tragedies must occur before the state takes a serious stand on hillslope development in the state?
Teh also apologised to all Penangites, especially his constituents, for the tragedy that befell.
“All I can say is that this has nothing to do with natural disaster but human error...those who are greedy for development,” he noted.
“My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. I also pray for the deceased,” he added.
