Yusof Apdal released from MACC custody on RM100,000 bail

KOTA KINABALU: Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal was released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail this morning.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus granted RM100,000 bail with two local sureties.

Yusof, who is Silam Umno chief, had spent six days in an MACC jail to facilitate a probe into the alleged misappropriation of federal funds for Sabah’s rural development projects.

Yusof, the younger brother of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, was represented by counsel Edward Counsel; while prosecuting officer Mohd Faliq Basirudin appeared for the MACC at this morning’s hearing.

Yusof, who was led out of the magistrate's room at about 10.05am, flashed a smile as pressmen approached him to take photos.

Shafie's wife Datin Seri Shuryani Shuaib was seen hugging and whispering to him briefly outside the courtroom. Other family members were also present.

Yusof, who arrived at the courthouse via a backdoor at 9.45am, was also greeted with cheers of support from Warisan members who were gathered outside the court.

Umno members also turned up outside the court to show their support.

Yusof was detained on Oct 17 after giving his statement on the case at the Sabah MACC office here.

Meanwhile, Shafie, whose remand order ends today, is expected to be brought to court at 11.30am.
