Dewan Rakyat pays tribute to the late Sultan of Kedah

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat paid tribute to the late Sultan of Kedah, Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at the start of the third meeting in the fifth session of the 13th parliamentary sitting.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee in his tribute speech expressed condolences to the late Sultan Abdul Halim's family.

"On behalf of the Dewan Rakyat, I extend our deepest condolences to the Sultanah of Kedah, Tuanku Hajah Haminah Hamidun and to the rest of the Kedah royal family.

"Almarhum had made history in the country's royal institution as he was the first sultan to have ascended the throne twice - from July 23, 1970 to Sept 21, 1975 and from Dec 13, 2011 to Dec 12, 2016.

"This speech will be kept in the archive and another copy will be sent to the Sultanah of Kedah," he added.

Ronald then called for Muslim Members of Parliament to recite Al-Fatihah while others were asked to observe a minute of silence.
