SFC reaches 100 adopters target for 'Mas'

KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Corp (SFC) recently announced that the target of 100 adopters for the orangutan named ‘Mas’ has been achieved within a month.

The adoption campaign was launched on Sept 16 at the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre with a birthday party thrown for the one-year-old Mas.

The adopters, from all over the world, included the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Singapore, China, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Indonesia, Denmark, Poland, Bangladesh, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Scotland and Ma-laysia.

SFC said in a statement that all the proceeds from the programme would be used to fund conservation activities and rehabilitation of wildlife, especially the orangutans.

Members of the public can still adopt an orangutan for one year through an RM200 contribution, while companies can sponsor their own ape for RM10,000 a year.

To date, 28 orangutans aged between one and 46 are living at the centre in a semi-wild environment.
