Tun Abdullah to get Hon. PhD from UniMAP

ARAU: Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will be conferred an honorary doctorate at the 12th convocation ceremony of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) , here, tomorrow.

UniMAP vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said the university’s chancellor Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail would be presenting the honorary PhD degree to Tun Abdullah during the first session of the ceremony.

He said the conferment was in recognition of Tun Abdullah’s services and contributions as the country’s fifth prime minister, particularly towards human capital development with emphasis on quality, as portrayed through the slogan, ‘Cemerlang, Gemilang dan Terbilang’ (Excellence, Glory and Distinction).

Speaking at a press conference on the convocation, Zul Azhar said 3,180 graduands would be receiving their scrolls, including 35 international and 40 local graduands who would be receiving their PhD.

He said the total of 103 international graduands in the fields of engineering and business were from Yemen, Somalia, Syria, Sudan, Uzbekistan, Myanmar, Bosnia, Palestine, Cameroon, Chad, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Nigeria and Pakistan.

He added that the convocation this time would see the first cohort of 136 graduates in New Media Communications from the university’s School of Human Development and Techno-Communication receiving their scrolls. -- Bernama
