IRB collected more than RM63 billion in direct taxes in first 7 months this year

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has collected RM63.82 billion in direct taxes as of July 31, this year, the Finance Ministry said.

It said IRB had set a target of RM127.74 billion for direct tax collection this year.

“Under the IRB’s 2016-2020 corporate plan, its performance is measured according to the corporate key performance index target achievement which is set every year, including target on direct tax collection,” it said in a written reply to Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh).

Kok had asked the finance minister to state the target for income tax to be collected by IRB in 2017 and the amount collected as of July 2017.

She also asked the minister to state the commission and reward system given to IRB officers to achieve the tax collection target.

“In terms of reward given to IRB officers, the board uses the system based on yearly performance according to a bonus distribution formula. The formula is based on overall performance in the said year.”

Last year the board collected more than RM114 billion in direct taxes, which was lower than the RM116.8 billion in 2015.
