Three men missing after diesel storage tank catches fire

KUALA LUMPUR: Three men are reportedly missing, after a diesel storage tank caught fire at a factory in Kuala Garing in Rawang today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said the storage tank with diameter of 40 x 14 feet had caught fire.

“Thirty firemen were deployed from Rawang, Batu Arang and Selayang station at 4.24pm. The firemen managed to put out the fire but three men are missing.

“Efforts to find the victims are ongoing,” he said.

Meanwhile in DUNGUN, five shophouses were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Alur Tembesu, here, today.

The 6pm blaze was believed to have started at a hardware store before it spread to the four neighbouring shops.

Dungun Fire and Rescue station chief Saifuddin Mohammad said the team arrived at the scene five minutes after receiving a distress call.

"The fire was spreading out of control despite the heavy rain. We had to call in assistance from the Paka station.

As of 9pm, the fire has yet to be put out.
