Penang floods: Orange alert in northern states

JOHOR BARU: An orange alert for heavy rain in the north of peninsula Malaysia has been issued by the Meteorological Department today.

A statement uploaded on the department’s Facebook said that a continuous heavy rain warning (Orange Level) and strong winds were issued for Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama districts, Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar) and expected to end by today.

It also said that heavy rain alert (Yellow Level) for continuous rain and strong winds were expected in Kelantan and Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Hulu Terengganu), and would last within the same period.

The department also issued a warning for thunderstorms in five states.

“Thunder storms, heavy rain and strong winds in Perak (Kinta, Kampar, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datoh, Hilir Perak, Muallim, Batang Padang), Selangor (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Klang and Hulu Langat), Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub and Bentong) and Mukah division in Sarawak to continue until Sunday Nov 5, 2017 (today).”
