Crutch-dependent Putrajaya student walks determinedly towards SPM

PUTRAJAYA: Although he cannot walk without the assistance of a crutch, Muhammad Faisal Rusydan Rokhaime was not deterred from trudging to school to sit for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

Faisal, 17, who is one of SMK Presint 16 (1)’s SPM candidates, sustained a serious injury to his right leg due to a car accident three years ago.

In spite of the setback, Faisal was determined to adequately prepare himself for the important examination.

"I have studied hard and am prepared to sit for SPM. I hope I will pass with flying colours," he said.

Checks by Harian Metro at the school showed that 167 candidates sat for SPM this morning.

The students gathered at 7.30am for a briefing session and for last-minute advice from teachers.

The candidates also recited a doa (prayer) before entering the examination hall to sit for the Bahasa Melayu 1 paper.

Some parents were also on hand to give their blessing and support.

Also present were Putrajaya Education Department director Roaini Jaafar and the school's principal, Ab Aziz Mamat.

Roaini said 1,335 Form 5 students are sitting for SPM at five examination centres in Putrajaya.

"All candidates will sit for SPM until Nov 30. We also have one new examination centre at SMK Putrajaya Presint 5 (1), which places 30 candidates.

"The examination session is going smoothly so far and I hope this will be maintained until the end of the examination," she added.
