Despite heavy rains, water at our dams at safe levels: TNB

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is assuring the public that water levels at its dams are not dangerously high as a result of heavy monsoon rains.

TNB Generation Division (Asset Operations) senior general manager Roslan Abd Rahman said controlled release of water at all the dams is being conducted in accordance with existing procedures to ensure that operations are safe.

“Hence, the public is advised not to spread any (unverified) information, as it will create panic and unrest among the public.

"Although weather conditions are improving, we will continue to monitor the situation at all our dams," he said.

TNB’s hydroelectric dams are the Cameron Highlands Power Station in Pahang; the Sungai Perak Electric Power Station in Perak; and the Kenyir Power Station in Terengganu.

Roslan said last month, TNB, several government agencies and communities living near the dams conducted emergency response plan training.

“The main purpose of the training was to better improve communication between TNB and relevant agencies in preparing for any disaster; as well as to test the effectiveness of the Emergency and Safety Plan at every dam,” he added.
