2,104 homeless get help at Anjung Singgah

KUALA LUMPUR: Up to September, 2,104 homeless people had sought help at Anjung Singgah here.

Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said they were given 14 to 30 days temporary shelter at Anjung Singgah.

“Certified counsellors from the Board of Counsellors Malaysia have conducted career counselling sessions for 5,706 individuals, groups and families,” said Azizah, adding that 1,490 of them had found work.

Azizah was responding to a question from Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (BN-Sabak Bernam) on the number of homeless people who had been rescued and provided assistance in terms of shelter, food and health in the city.

Azizah said 367 had returned to their families and 157 had been referred to relevant departments and agencies.

“Until June this year, 224 homeless people were rescued in 127 integrated operations.”

The hotspots for these operations are Chow Kit, Alka Ria, Medan Tuanku, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Bunus, Masjid India, Bangkok Bank, Brickfields, Bukit Bintang, Dataran Maybank, Segi College and Puduraya.
