Najib praises bilal who gave shelter to 70 non-Muslim flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has praised a bilal's act of opening up a surau to 70 non- Muslim flood victims at Taman Free School recently.

"Islam teaches us to love one another and we know about Rasulullah SAW who protected everyone regardless of their race and religion when in need, as described in At -Taubah verse.

"Prophet Muhammad's verse which reads 'If someone of a different religion seeks your help for protection, then you protect them' is what we should all follow," Najib posted on his Facebook page.

He was referring to Sapno Tukijo, the bilal of Taman Free School surau, who gave refuge to non-Muslim victims who were wading through chest-deep water looking for shelter.

He said personally he felt that Suraus and Mosques which had opened its doors to the flood victims for temporary shelter irregardless of their race and religion was something to be praised as it was the rightful thing to do.

"This is the 1Malaysia Negaraku spirit which must be emulated by all," Najib wrote in the post.

The 70 non-Muslims, made homeless on Sunday due to floods, were walking along Lengkuk P. Ramlee in Penang at 2am when Sapno spotted them and invited them to take shelter at the surau.
