UniMAP to organise Fifth Royal Institution seminar in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) through its Research Institute for Royal Institution, Leadership and Community (IKRK) is organising a 2-day Royal Institution Seminar (SIRaj) 2017.

The seminar will take place in Makassar, Indonesia, beginning tomorrow and is organised by Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Alauddin Makassar, Indonesia, UniMAP said in a statement today.

The Raja Muda of Perlis and the Chancellor of UniMAP, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, will officiate the seminar.

UniMAP Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said, the Royal Institution is a symbol of honour and sovereignty, and the sanctity of the royal institution must be secured from time to time.

“Recognising its importance, the second principle of Rukun Negara being ‘the Loyalty to the King and the Country’, has emphasised that every citizen should be devoted, faithful, honest and sincere to the King and the Malay rulers,.”

He said UniMAP is organising the seminar for the fifth time, with the hope of creating awareness amongst the people, on the importance of the Royal Institution as the base of the country’s governance, which is in line with the present day democratic administration.

“The purpose of the seminar is also to uphold the dignity and the prestige of the Royal Institutions in both countries, and at the same time to inculcate the people’s understanding in recognising the King’s role as an important component of constitutional monarchy system. It also serves as the best platform for information sharing between the neighbouring reigning monarchs.”

Zul Azhar adds that in organising of this seminar it is hoped the community, especially the younger generations understand and honour the sovereignty of the royal institution and the Malay rulers in upholding Malaysia as the Islamic country as well as at the same time to devote their loyalty to the King through intellectual discourse and sharing of knowledge in every aspect of their life.

The seminar is themed ‘Kesultanan Alam Melayu' (The Malay Sultanate) and will see presentation from two keynote speakers as well as other speakers.

The keynote speakers will be UniMAP’s Director of IKRK cum history expert, Datuk Dr. Ramlah Adam and Rektor Universitas Cokroaminoto Makassar Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Asdar, S.E, M.Si.

The seminar is co-sponsored by Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra Perlis, Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd, Yayasan UniMAP, UniMAP Holdings and Proven Group of Companies.
