Two boats collide near Tambisan island; teen feared drown, two others injured

SANDAKAN: A teen is feared drown while two were injured when their boats collided near Tambisan island here Wednesday night.

During the incident, both boats were headed to the island.

“One of the victims Zamazi Zakaria, 31, whose boat was hit by another boat, escaped unhurt.

“Zamazi sent two children, Mohamad Yazer, 11 and Asraf Jalani, 16, from the other boat to the Tambisan clinic,” a statement by Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said.

The third person identified as 18-year-old Abu Sabri Jalani is still missing.

Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (MRCC) Sabah and Labuan received a call from the victim’s friend at about 9pm yesterday.

A search and rescue operation was launched at 10.55pm and a temporary operation has been set up at the location.

Also involved in the operation, which covered a five-nautical miles radius, included the marine police, navy, Fire and Rescue Department, and villagers.
