EPF confirms Tan Swee Gek's savings secured, nomination protected.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) has taken immediate action to rectify discrepancy involving Madam Tan Swee Gek’s savings with the fund.

EPF said that it had contacted Tan and her husband Yong Kim Leong over the matter and assured the couple that it had taken immediate action to identify the issue over the member’s data as mentioned in their complaint.

In their complaint, the couple claimed that Tan’s EPF account had been ‘shared’ with an unknown male contributor.

Yong the Kampung Broga headman and his wife Tan made the discovery during a visit to the EPF’s branch in Kajang, Selangor, on Nov 1 to update her account.

It was also claimed that the name of a ‘mystery’ man was also listed as a beneficiary in his wife’s account, along with Yong’s name and the couple’s son.

“The EPF regrets the inconvenience and worries caused to Mr Yong and Madam Tan as special attention is given to the integrity of EPF’s data.

“The EPF assures its system will automatically freeze member’s account upon detecting any data uncertainty to ensure members’ savings remain intact.

“The EPF’s investigation shows that Madam Tan’s EPF savings are secured and updated to the latest contribution month,” it said in a statement today.

In regards to the allegation on nomination, the EPF’s investigation reveals that nomination made by Madam Tan in 2012 is valid and still in effect.

“Allegation that nomination details had been registered under two names along with a Malay man from Kelantan is not true.”
