Police bust illegal syndicate selling fake 'Datukships'

JOHOR BARU: Police have busted a syndicate selling fake state awards and bogus Datukships after arresting two men in Batu Pahat recently.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the syndicate is believed to have been active since early this year.

“The syndicate's modus operandi involves asking prospective buyers to register with an illegal organisation with a registration fee of RM20,000.

“They would then offer the buyers state awards or Datukship for prices between RM180,000 and RM280,000 each,” said Khalil.

He said a total of 13 police reports have been lodged over the matter, involving a total loss of RM1.34 million.

“The two suspects, aged 40 and 57, have been remanded and we are looking for a man, Mohd Faizal Abd Rahman, 33, to help with the investigation,” said Khalil.
