'Ample assistance is on the way for Penang flood victims' - BN assemblyman

BUTTERWORTH: Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) has given assurance to all victims of the Nov 4 floods that they will be given ample assistance without any form of favouritism.

Teluk Air Tawar assemblyman Datuk Jahara Hamid urged all victims to be patient while waiting for the aid to be distributed.

She said the Federal Government was now evaluating the suitable allocation for the victims.

“All relevant ministers have come down to the ground to evaluate the damages, and an announcement on allocation to be distributed will be made soon.

“Our focus now is to provide other form of assistance such as food and basic necessities such as mattresses, pillows, blankets and equipment for house cleaning.

“There will be more aid. Just that the Federal Government asks all to be patient as there are processes to be followed before any announcement is made,” she added.

Jahara said this when asked to comment on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s statement, who had claimed that no aid was coming from the Federal Government following the visit by several of the country’s top leaders.

Earlier, Jahara and representatives from the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority presented mattresses and pillows valued at RM12,500 to 50 flood victims.

She said since the major floods, there had been other aid from numerous federal agencies.

“This is testimony that the Federal Government has never practised favouritism when helping the people, even in opposition-led states.

In the recent floods, 300 houses in Teluk Air Tawar were submerged.
