Kota Baru victims laid to rest; 300 relatives and friends attend funeral

BACHOK: The bodies of a couple and their 13-year-old son who were murdered at Wakaf Mek Zainab in Kota Baru, were laid to rest Friday afternoon.

Trader Kha Eng Ni, 42; his wife, Chua Joo Seok, 37; and their son, Kha Zee Hanz, 13; were laid to rest at a cemetery in Kampung Merabang here.

Close to 300 relatives and friends attended the burial which started about noon.

Earlier, relatives and friends paid their last respects to the victims at their home in Kampung Balai here early in the morning before their coffins were taken to the cemetery about two kilometres away.

Also seen at the cemetery were the couple's three other children – Xing Fei, 19; Xing Rhuu, 15; and eight-year-old Xing Shyen.

Zee Hanz and Xing Rhuu's classmates from Sekolah Menengah Chung Cheng were also presented at the cemetery to give their moral support.

Relatives of the couple's three children kept the press at bay.

"Give them some space. They are still traumatised over the incident, especially Xing Rhuu. We are trying our best to assist them," said a close relative.

In the 2.30pm incident on Wednesday, the couple and their son were murdered at their house-cum-store in Taman Bahagia.

Xing Rhu survived in the attack, while Xing Shyen, who was also at the scene, was reported to have hidden under a chair during the attack.

Following the attack, police are looking for a 31-year-old suspect identified as Sharat s/o Eh Wang @ Pot, from Kampung Jubakar Darat, Tumpat, an employee of the family.
