Hisham assures efforts being made to upgrade military assets, including C130

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry is constantly upgrading its military assets to suit more advance use and ensure safety at all times.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the 2018 Budget, tabled on Oct 27, also provided some allocation for the said efforts.

This, he pointed out, included enhancing the Royal Malaysian Air Force's Hercules C130 transport aircraft and Nuri helicopters with the latest technology.

He said it was unfair for the public to demand the government to stop the entire operation of the aircrafts simply due to some "incidents".

"I hope people will understand...that we are in the midst of upgrading. We are not taking this issue lightly.

"In the 2018 Budget, there's allocation given specifically for the purpose of upgrading the aircraft," he said at Putra World Trade Centre here today, referring to the C130 plane.

Hishammuddin was asked to comment on yesterday's incident where a C130 made an emergency landing at the Labuan International Airport following a landing gear malfunction.

Meanwhile, commenting on the country's effort in fighting terrorism, Hishammuddin said Malaysia will continue to block the influence of the Islamic State (IS) from spreading into the country.

"No country is excluded from being the IS' target. We saw even developed countries were made targets. But at the same time, we can't live in fear. We must be brave (in facing the threat).

"These militant groups will only be successful if we stop making efforts to contain their influence." he said.
